The Irish government has refused to carry out checks on the accessibility of gambling for people on low incomes, although such a measure has been taken in the UK.
How it should work in theory
Players provide details of their income to the betting company. The check is carried out when a player loses more than £100 per month. If the average income allows for betting without compromising quality of life, the player continues to spin the slots or bet on horse racing as if nothing happened.
Otherwise, access to the betting company is restricted.
Irish government response
Minister in charge of gambling regulation James Browne commented on why Ireland refuses such practices. He explained that such a decision would greatly affect the economics of bookmakers, as well as this move is an interference in the personal life of a human being.
Therefore, this measure will not be implemented in Ireland, regardless of how much money the Irish gambler spends for gambling entertainment.
